Throughout her long history of service, the Orion was decorated by her sailors, often in public places with messages and hand-painted artwork. Sometimes the art was functional, sometimes it just passed the time and demonstrated a sense of pride the crew had in the work that they did. Here is a small collection of some of the last bits of art that remained on Orion after her decommissioning. Orion was ultimately cut apart in Dundalk, Maryland. At that time, the crew at the boneyard took notice of the paintings, and remarked that this ship was surely loved by her crew.
